Khao Yai is about 3 hours drive from Bangkok Airport while Khao Kho is further north, another 4 hours drive from Khao Yai. Both are quite a popular destination among Singaporeans recently.
We choose chartered transport over self-drive. The cost of petrol is not cheap in Thailand and driving to Khao Kho required an SUV. With these two factors to consider, the cost of rental and chartered is about the same.
At Khao Yai, we enjoyed local Thai food at unique themed restaurants. At sunset, we watched countless bats streaming out of the cave. Spent an exciting day at Khao Yai National Park, from spotting gibbons to chasing an elephant. Enjoyed the colorful flowers field at Jim Thompson Farm.
We totally fall in love with the panoramic scenery at mountainous Khao Kho. The cooling temperature is a plus too. A tram ride through the wind farm and mosaic-style temple are unique experiences in Khao Kho. We also spend an unforgettable one night at Phu Thap Boek where you can admire the sunrise and the clouds so near you.
