~ Farm Gate Market ~ Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary ~ Rathmore Sheep Farm ~
Another market worth a visit is the Farm Gate Market, located at Bathurst Street and only open on Sunday mornings. This market is about Tasmanian produce, from cheese and honey to seasonal veggies and fruit. There are available resting corners for you to relax. Not to forget the food trucks.

Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, which runs by a team of like-minded passionate people, is next on our list. This sanctuary also provides 24/7 wildlife rescue services. Should you encounter injured wildlife while on the road, you can give them a call.
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary ticket AUD$32.50/pp

Visitors can join the daily free guided tours to understand more about the animals’ lifestyles and why they are at the sanctuary.
Close encounter with the kangaroos and feeding them is another highlight activity. There are over a hundred kangaroos, some with joey surrounding the visitors, all for the bags of food.

Many wild parrots were flying around the sanctuary. Their loud chirping caught our attention.
We had lunch at the nearby town before continuing our journey into the central highland.

There were many sheep farms along the way. Picturesque landscape. Our destination is Rathmore Sheep Farm, located in Hollow Tree.

Two adorable baby lambs welcome us at the entrance.

Rathmore house is a 150 years old Georgian-style guesthouse, complete with elegant victorian style types of furniture. Relaxing in the sitting room with a fabulous view of the surroundings while having the welcome tea is perhaps one of the best activities in the house. Both Cally and Richard are friendly and enjoyed to pamper every guest. Before sunset, we followed Cally, along with the baby lambs, to the farm to feed the livestock and to see more of Rathmore’s property.
I got the chance to bottle-feed the baby lamb, and not an easy job.

With Chief Richard and friendly Cally, we had dinner in the Georgian dining room with a beautiful table setup. The meat is juicy, soft, and tender. A tasty and yummy dinner, the best we had so far in Tasmania.

We had star gazing at the front of the house, but it started to drizzle. Our day ended after a short drive with the hope of viewing another Aurora.
