~ World Heritage Cruise ~

It started pouring while we had breakfast at The Coffee Shack. Rain in Tasmania comes and goes fast. The weather was always unpredictable.

Today we were going to onboard World Heritage Cruises, a local family-owned business, and cruise along the iconic Gordon River and deep into the rainforest. The whole journey lasted about 6 hours. Ticket cost about AUD$199 for the upper deck window seats.

The weather was pretty bad for the day. Rain comes and goes. Thus, we were unable to witness the famous reflections along the river.
The cruise sailed to the Hells Gates, which got its name from the convicts, the narrow entrance to the Macquarie Harbor.

Get close to the aqua farm, which farmed the Atlantic salmon and Ocean Trout.

Step onto Sarah Island, a tiny remote island at the southern end of Macquarie Harbor, to see some of the oldest convicts’ ruins. It was known to be a settlement that pre-dates Port Arthur by decades. We know more about the extraordinary stories through the guided tour.

Continue the journey along the South West Wilderness National Park.

We had a simple individual-packed lunch with various local produce onboard.

Another guided tour is on the Heritage Landing boardwalk. A great and lovely stroll through the ancient forests.

In the late afternoon, we were back in the town center and went to the nearby supermarkets to stock up on our stuff. Explore the small town of Strahan on the wheels and back to Hamer for our dinner.
