Day 15 : Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain : Dove Lake Circuit + Cradle Valley Boardwalk

The weather was great for us to start our adventure in Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.

The iconic Cradle Mountain is one of the most famous attractions in Tasmania. To fully see the beauty of the mountain, it is best to hike at least one of the walking trails to witness the many different stunning landscapes. We walked the Dove Lake Circuit and Cradle Valley Boardwalk.

Board the first bus from the Visitor Center and alight at Dove Lake.

Dove Lake Circuit is a 6km moderate walk that requires about 2-3 hours to complete and is one of the Great Short Walks in Tasmania. We walk the circuit in a clockwise direction that ends at the beautiful boat shed. There are many lookout spots along the route. Some side trails lead to the shore. The most tedious section is uphill on the stone steps. The entire trail cover different green-scape. It took us three hours to meander around dove lake, with various spectacular landscapes.

A quick lunch at the visitor center and start the next worthy walk at the Interpretation center.

Cradle Valley Boardwalk is a 5.5km easy walk in the park. As the name state, the entire route is on the wooden boardwalk. The walk starts at the Interpretation Center and ends at Ronny Creek or vice versa. From golden button grass landscape to open woodland and crossing a few wooden bridges over the river, this gorgeous and easy trek presents us with various natural landscapes. In the evening, spot the chubby wombats around the Ronny Creek boardwalk area.

We took the shuttle bus back to the visitor center and went to the lodge restaurant for a casual dinner, another delicious meal.
