Singapore > Hanoi Old Quarter

We landed at Hanoi International Airport before midday and transferred to Hanoi Old Quarter by arranged transport with the hotel.

Lunch at Chả Cá Thăng Long. Chả Cá is a boneless fish dish unique to Hanoi. The meat is marinated with turmeric and other ingredients, covered in banana leaves, and grilled. The fish are stir-fried again at the table with various vegetables. Put some rice noodles, roasted peanuts, spring onions, fish sauce, and a piece of sizzling hot fish into a small bowl and ready to be served.

The famous Hanoi Train Street, the narrowest distance of the railway to houses, is barricaded and quiet. The scene around the track is opposite on the other side of the road. We followed someone to a cafe and were given a seat right next to the train track. Before the train approached, we were instructed to stand and keep a distance from the railway. The train is less than a meter from us, and the hand can touch the carriage. Everyone is surprised and excited by the proximity to the train. What a unique and exciting experience. Do take note of your safety as the train passes through.

Walk around the thousand-year-old city to see the unique life of the local people. The traffic is hectic. Crossing the road does require some skill and braveness. Almost every minute, you will hear the honk. Thus, one must be able to tolerate the noisy and chaotic traffic while exploring the Old Quarter. But this is unique to Hanoi city.

Bún Bò Nam Bộ, a southern-style beef salad noodle, is delicious. It is light and flavorsome, suitable for a simple dinner.

The nearby Cloud Sky Bar, located on the rooftop of JM Marvel Hotel, is one of the best places to chill and relax for the night.
