Iceland, a Nordic island country, is world-renowned for its raw wilderness and dramatic landscapes. Located between the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, and straddling the boundary where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, it is a land shaped by powerful natural forces. Its stunning and picturesque scenery has long placed Iceland on my bucket list. Often called the “Land of Fire and Ice,” it is home to volcanoes, glaciers, geysers, lava fields, waterfalls, hot springs, and countless other natural wonders.
For 14 days, we set out on the ultimate adventure: a self-drive journey around the island via the Ring Road, traveling clockwise. Along the way, we explored the Central Highlands, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the Silver, Diamond, and Golden Circles, the South Coast, and finally, the capital Reykjavík, each region offering landscapes more unique and breathtaking than the last. We were especially fortunate to witness several nights of the northern lights, with the most unforgettable being the 10 October 2024 red aurora storm, one of the strongest auroral displays across Europe in recent years
