October is one of the best times to visit Northern Vietnam as the rice paddy fields turn golden and ready for harvest.
The far remote northern province, Ha Giang, has spectacular landscapes. Relax at the back of the car and soak in the impressive scenery along the winding road. Stroll into the unspoiled countryside to explore the different villages.
Combine Ha Giang and Cao Bang provinces for the best of the far north. Ban Gioc Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Asia, sits at the border between Cao Bang province and China. Not forgetting to visit Ba Be National Park for another kind of landscape.
Ninh Binh province, 90km south of Hanoi, is another natural beauty. Trang An scenic landscape complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A boat tour along the winding river is the best way to discover the charm.
Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, is a bustling thousand-year-old city. The Old Quarter is best discovered on foot. Walk into the noisy maze and discover the ancient charm. Explore the more organized and quiet French Quarter to feel the differences. Do not leave Hanoi without tasting the famous egg coffee and other local food.
